Product information "ß-Cyclodextrin, Hydroxypropyl (Hydroxypropyl-ß-cyclodextrin)"
Cyclodextrins (sometimes called cycloamyloses) are a family of compounds made up of sugar molecules bound together in a ring (cyclic oligosaccharides). Cyclodextrins are produced from starch by means of enzymatic conversion. They are used in food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, as well as agriculture and environmental engineering. A cyclodextrin is the chief active compound found in Procter and Gamble's deodorizing product "Febreze" under the brand name "Clenzaire". Cyclodextrins are composed of 5 or more alpha-D-glucopyranoside units linked 1->4, as in amylose (a fragment of starch). The 5-membered macrocycle is not natural. Recently, the largest well-characterized cyclodextrin contains 32 1,4-anhydroglucopyranoside units, while as a poorly characterized mixture, even at least 150-membered cyclic oligosaccharides are also known. Typical cyclodextrins contain a number of glucose monomers ranging from six to eight units in a ring, creating a cone shape. thus denoting:, alpha -cyclodextrin: six membered sugar ring molecule, beta -cyclodextrin: seven sugar ring molecule, gamma -cyclodextrin: eight sugar ring molecule, Assay: >98.0%, Appearance: White or almost white crystalline powder, Degree of Substitution: 3to 9 , Loss on Drying: , <4.5%, Solubility: Clear, colorless solution , Residue on Ignition: , <0.5%, Heavy Metals: <0.002%, Residue Betadex: < 0.1%, Residue Propylene Glycol: < 0.1% , Chloride: <0.0002%, Arsenic: <0.0004% , Total Aerobic Count: <1000cfu/g, Total Molds and Yeasts: <100cfu/g , E.coli: Negative
