Varenicline is a full agonist of alpha7 subunit-containing neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs, EC50 = 18 µM) and a partial agonist of alpha4beta2 subunit-containing nAChRs (EC50 = 2.3 µM).
