A monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor. It reduces conversion of N-acetyl-1,6- diaminohexane (NAD-AH) to 6-acetamido- hexanoic acid (AcHA) catalyzed by MAO. Tranylcypromine was found to enhancie Hexmethylene bisacetamide (HMBA) and its metabolite NAD-AH induced cell differentiation.
