Talaporfin is a photosensitizer. It induces apoptosis, DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), and the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in TE-11R 5-fluorouracil-resistant esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cells when used at a concentration of 30 µg/ml in combination with radiation. Talaporfin (2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg) in combination with photodynamic therapy (PDT) reduces tumor growth in a TE-11R ESCC mouse xenograft model. Formulations containing talaporfin have been used as photosensitizers in PDT for the treatment of endobronchial cancer.Formal Name: N-[2-[(7S,8S)-3-carboxy-7-(2-carboxyethyl)-13-ethenyl-18-ethyl-7,8-dihydro-2,8,12,17-tetramethyl-21H,23H-porphin-5-yl]acetyl]-L-aspartic acid, tetrasodium salt. CAS Number: 220201-34-3. Synonyms: Mono-L-aspartyl Chlorin e6, NPe6, Taporfin. Molecular Formula: C38H37N5O9 . 4Na. Formula Weight: 799.7. Purity: >95%.
