Gymnemic acid I is a triterpene glycoside that has been found in G. sylvestre and has antihyperglycemic activities. It inhibits glucose-induced phosphorylation of serine 70 on S6 kinase (S6K1) and serine 2448 on mTOR, caspase-3 activity, and apoptosis, as well as increases autophagy in MIN-6 pancreatic beta cells when used at a concentration of 5 µg/ml.
