Acridine orange is a cell-permeable, nucleic acid-selective fluorescent cationic dye useful for cell cycle determination and detection of cellular autophagy. It exhibits excitation/emission spectra of 502/525, 460/650, and 475/590 nm when bound to dsDNA, bound to ssDNA or RNA, and under acidic conditions, respectively. The ratio of acridine orange emission at 590 to emission at 525 nm can be used to quantify the increase in the number of acidic vesicular organelles observed during cellular autophagy.Formal Name: N3,N3,N6,N6-tetramethyl-3,6-acridinediamine. CAS Number: 494-38-2. Synonyms: C.I. 46005B, NSC 194350. Molecular Formula: C17H19N3. Formula Weight: 265.4. Emission: 525 nm (dsDNA), 650 nm (ssDNA and RNA), 590 nm (low pH). Excitation: 502 nm (dsDNA), 460 nm (ssDNA and RNA), 475 nm (low pH). Formulation: (Request formulation change), A crystalline solid. Solubility: DMF: 2 mg/ml, DMSO: 20 mg/ml, Ethanol: 0.3 mg/ml, PBS (pH 7.2): 1 mg/ml. SMILES: CN(C)C1=CC(N=C(C=C(N(C)C)C=C2)C2=C3)=C3C=C1. InChi Code: InChI=1S/C17H19N3/c1-19(2)14-7-5-12-9-13-6-8-15(20(3)4)11-17(13)18-16(12)10-14/h5-11H,1-4H3. InChi Key: DPKHZNPWBDQZCN-UHFFFAOYSA-N.
