Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic produced by S. spectabilis that is active against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Spectinomycin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit and interfering with peptidyl tRNA translocation.
