Product information "Anti-HRP-conjugated beta Tubulin, clone 2E8-2"
In eukaryotes there are six members of the tubulin superfamily. alpha- and beta-tubulins polymerize into microtubules,a major component of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. Microtubules function in many essential cellular processes, including mitosis. Both alpha and beta tubulins have a mass of around 50 kDa. Tubulin was long thought to be specific to eukaryotes. Beta-tubulin gene is commonly used as a loading control for western blot. Protein function: Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules, a cylinder consisting of laterally associated linear protofilaments composed of alpha- and beta-tubulin heterodimers. Microtubules grow by the addition of GTP-tubulin dimers to the microtubule end, where a stabilizing cap forms. Below the cap, tubulin dimers are in GDP-bound state, owing to GTPase activity of alpha-tubulin. [The UniProt Consortium]
