I am interested in purchasing a product. How do I get pricing information?
Prices for customers in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Germany can be found with each product description on our website. You must select your country to view pricing. Customers from other countries should contact your local distributor for pricing (click here to find your distributor). Many products are available in “bulk” at reduced prices. Contact customer services for a prompt quotation: order@biomol.com or 800-942-0430.
How can I obtain a copy of the protocol or product data sheet?
In addition to product descriptions, the product data sheets and protocols are available on our website. When viewing a product description, simply click the product data sheet link to obtain protocols or other product specific information. The product data sheet contains background information, solubility information, typical applications and useful references.
How can I obtain a copy of the MSDS?
MSDS sheets are available on our website. When viewing a product description, simply click the MSDS link.
I received a vial that appears empty.
Many products are sold in small quantities, are transparent, and/or are lyophilized to thin films on the walls of the vial making them difficult to see (e.g. consider that 1 mg of water has a volume of 1 µl and imagine that volume spread over the bottom of a vial). Please check the product data sheet for notes on quantity and presentation. Adding the recommended solvent will provide a solution that can be used in the application of your choice.
I received a product at a temperature that differs from the storage temperature on the product data sheet. Is the product O.K.?
Yes. Many products are stable in the short-term at temperatures that differ from that required for long-term storage. Whenever possible, BIOMOL saves you shipping charges by using the most economical storage conditions for shipment. Upon receipt of the product, follow the storage recommendations on the product data sheet.
Where do I find solubility information?
Solubility information can be found on the product data sheet that accompanies the product. Concentrations listed are concentrations at which products have been tested for solubility by BIOMOL. Please note that this is not necessarily the maximum solubility, and higher concentrations may be obtainable. If only solvents are listed, the product is very soluble in that solvent and should be soluble at typical stock concentrations.
I cannot dissolve the product. What should I do?
Check the solubility information on the product data sheet to make sure you are using an appropriate solvent and concentration. Be sure that any organic solvents that you are using are anhydrous. Unless stated otherwise, try warming the product in a water bath. For very hydrophobic products, the addition of a carrier protein, such as BSA, to the aqueous media may also be helpful. Most of all be patient, when dissolving difficult compounds, time is often your ally. If you continue to have difficulties dissolving the product, we encourage you to call us.
The product is soluble in a concentrated stock solution but precipitates upon dilution. How can I prevent this?
We do not recommend using water or other aqueous media to make serial dilutions of compounds dissolved in organic solvents. Make a concentrated stock (e.g. 1000x) in a recommended organic solvent (e.g. DMSO or ethanol) and dilute directly to your working concentration in the appropriate aqueous medium. Some products may still precipitate upon initial dilution, but warming the solution will often redissolve the precipitate. For very hydrophobic compounds, the addition of a carrier protein, such as BSA, to the aqueous media may also be helpful in preventing precipitation during dilution. Some hydrophobic compounds can be effective in tissue culture experiments when used in suspension rather than in solution.
The lipid I purchased is presented as an oil. How do I transfer or pipette the amount that I need?
Lipids are typically supplied neat (e.g. not dissolved in a solvent) and appear as oily liquids. They are usually supplied by weight. To use these products, add a known volume of appropriate solvent. Dividing the weight supplied by the volume of solvent added gives you the concentration. Now, you can pipette the amount you require for use. Aliquot the remaining product and store as recommended on the data sheet.
If the product is not sterile, will it contaminate my cells?
BIOMOL cannot guarantee that a product will not contaminate your cells, but you can take one of several measures to prevent introduction of bacterial or fungal contaminants to your cultures. (1) Be sure your culture media contains antibiotic; this prevents most contamination problems. (2) Dissolve the product in 100% ethanol or 100% sterile DMSO; these solvents are not conducive to bacterial or fungal growth. (3) Dissolve the compound in solvent and filter sterilize it through a 0.22 um filter; this is the best precaution you can take but will result in losses of product in the filter.
Can I purchase 96-well plates used in an assay kit separately?
Yes. We supply several plates separately from the kits. These are listed below:
| Cat. # |
Plate |
| KI-101 |
clear, ½ volume |
| KI-110 |
white, ½ volume |
Confirm which plate you need from the protocol of the kit that you are using.
Can I purchase individual components of an assay kit separately?
Yes. Substrates and enzymes are often sold separately as stand-alone products, and other kit components are frequently available as well. Individual kit components are listed on the protocol each with its own unique catalog number and those that are available separately are listed at the end of each protocol. Please note that the size and/or presentation of the stand-alone item may be different from that supplied in the kit.
I am interested in an antibody, but would like to know its species cross-reactivity?
You can check for known species cross-reactivity on the product data sheet. If your species of interest is not listed, please contact us for more information.
I am interested in an antibody, but I would like to know if it works for immunostaining or immunoprecipitation?
You can check for tested applications on the product data sheet. If your application of interest is not listed, please contact us for more information.
